"I'm just not sure if they would like it!"
How often has this paralyzing doubt aided in procrastinating your gift purchases? Gift giving is hard; we all want to find that perfect gift. This difficulty is most often seen when purchasing jewellery for others. While we will always be here with helpful tips when your are in the store, here are some things to consider before you come in:
This is really important if you are shopping for rings! If you have access to sneakily borrow a ring from a jewellery box so you can measure it, do that. (bonus: if you can bring it in we can measure it for you!) This could mean that you personally have access or you have someone who you can enlist in your sneaky project. If it's not possible for you to find the right size maybe reconsider. There are lots of other pieces of jewellery that can make beautiful gifts.
Also, if you are purchasing a ring for your significant other, but it's not the ring make sure you gift it in a larger box to avoid any disappointing scenarios. If you still nervous about it being misinterpreted, you could even preface the exchange with something like "I have something for you, but I don't want you to get too excited".
Two big categories to consider are timeless vs trendy. Knowing this will help narrow down your search. Timeless being simple, elegant pieces that never go out of style; trendy being latest fashions, usually edgy and bold. This will take some time and observation on your part. Take note of what the person your shopping for wears regularly. Do they wear bold statement pieces? Does their work require them to dress a certain way? Are their jewellery choices subtle? Do they only wear jewellery when they dress-up? Do they like experimenting with style? Maybe they don't wear bracelets, but always wear earrings. Take your time observing. This will help guarantee that they will love your gift!
This goes for metals and stones. While some people might like the look of mixing metals some may have a more traditional approach. Some people only wear one type of metal. Make sure this is something you take note of while sleuthing. Also, when it comes to purchasing stones you will need to know their colour preferences. Everyone has a favourite colour to wear. If you're not sure of what colour they would like opt for a clear or neutral colour stone. Pinterest boards can be a sneaky way to find out style and colour preferences!
Other Things To Consider
An important thing to consider when purchasing jewellery is metal sensitivity. Nickel is the common culprit. Alloys may be combined with gold or silver to make the jewellery harder and inexpensive. The jewellery in our cases are nickel free and we have two lines- Sensitique and Oxford Station -of inexpensive nickel free jewellery. We also carry beautiful jewellery by 3 local artists, Shirleybird, Cristy Johnson and Karen Telio.
The holiday season is the perfect time to give special gifts like jewellery. We hope this little guide helps make the process easier. If you ever have any questions or ideas don't hesitate to ask!
